Eligibility Criteria

The essential qualifications, desirable qualifications, age, and experience for these posts are in accordance with the Recruitment Rules (2019) for Non-Teaching Staff in NITs, as notified under No. F.35-5/2018-TS.III by the MHRD letters dated 20.02.2019 and 04.04.2019.

For Junior Assistant (as per Recruitment Rules 2019, extract included in the PDF):

  • Essential Qualification: Senior Secondary (10+2) from a recognized board, with a minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute and proficiency in computer word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Desirable Qualification: Proficiency in additional computer skills and stenography.

Experience and other requirements should be referred to in detail in the Recruitment Rules (2019) for Non-Teaching Staff in NITs as mentioned in the official notification.

Fee Structure
  • Applicants belonging to UR, EWS, OBC (Non-creamy layer) & Ex-servicemen category shall be required to pay online non-refundable fee of Rs. 1,000/-.
  • The application fee of Rs. 500/- shall be refunded to the Ex-servicemen candidates subject to appearing for the Selection Process i.e. Screening Test.
  • SC/ST/Women applicants are required to pay online Rs. 500/- only towards online application.
  • The PwBD candidates have been exempted from the Application & Processing Fee.

Age Limits

maximum age limit for the posts will be as per the Recruitment Rules (2019) for Non-Teaching Staff in NITs:

  • Junior Assistant: 27 years (relaxable by up to 5 years for departmental candidates as per Central Government instructions).
  • Senior Assistant: 33 years (relaxable by up to 5 years for departmental candidates as per Central Government instructions).

Important Notes:

  • The age limit and other eligibility criteria will be calculated as of the last date of online application submission, i.e., 30.01.2026.
  • Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-Servicemen candidates will apply as per Government of India norms.
  • No relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates applying for Unreserved (UR) vacancies.

Category-wise age relaxation beyond the upper age limit:

Mode Of Selection 
The Institute may screen online applications to limit the number of candidates called for the selection process. At its discretion, NIT Tiruchirappalli may restrict the number of applicants at any stage of the selection.
The list of shortlisted candidates along with the date and time of the selection process will be published only on the Institute’s website. Shortlisted candidates may also be notified via their registered email ID.
The selection process may involve multiple stages, the details of which will be published along with the list of shortlisted candidates. Applicants are advised to regularly check the Institute’s website for all updates and information regarding the recruitment process.
Screening of applications will be carried out based on the requirements specified in the Recruitment Rules and the conditions set by the duly constituted Screening Committee.
The selection process may include:

Main Written Test
Note: Any form of canvassing will lead to disqualification of the candidature.
General Information 
Applicants must ensure their eligibility for the post applied for as on the closing date of online applications. Applications of candidates not meeting the eligibility criteria may be rejected at any stage.
Only experience gained after the minimum qualifying degree will be considered.
Applicants will be allowed to appear in the selection process based on the information provided in their application; receiving a call for the selection process does not guarantee appointment.
